Coalition of hope: Pro-European parties unite against the right!

Romania - in a dramatic political chess game, Romania's pro-European parties have achieved a historical agreement! The formation of a multi -time government will push the right -wing extremist nationalists out of the game and herald a new era.

The Left Social Democratic Party (PSD), which emerged in the elections on December 1st, has joined together on Tuesday evening with the center-right national liberal party (PNL), the reform-oriented Save Romania Union (USR) and the small ethnic Hungarian party UDMR. An alliance that could significantly change the political landscape of Romania!

an alliance against the ultra -nationalists

The elections also revealed an alarming development: three ultranationalist and hard rights groups, some with open pro-Russian views, won more than a third of the seats in parliament. This happened shortly after a controversial presidential election, in which the NATO-critical Calin Georgescu won the first round and allegations of election fraud and Russian interference were loud.

In an unexpected turning point, the constitutional court only canceled the presidential race days before the runoff election on December 8th. The uncertainty about Georgescus Participation in the new election remains, while the public prosecutor's office is investigating its campaign.

a new course for Romania

The freshly formed coalition has already made plans! "In the coming days, the four parties and representatives of national minorities will work on a joint government program that focuses on development and reforms and takes into account the priorities of the Romanian citizens," announced the coalition. A joint pro-European candidate for the upcoming presidential elections could also be supported!

Elena Lasconi, the leader of the USR, who was supposed to compete against Georgescu in the cancellated runoff election, said: "Romania is experiencing a very difficult phase." She emphasized that the reduction in government spending and reducing bureaucracy will be part of the government program.

Analysts are skeptical: the four parties that have often argued about political questions in the past could have difficulty agreeing to certain economic measures. The new government will also set a schedule for the presidential elections, which are expected to take place in the first half of 2025.

The outgoing President Klaus Iohannis, who remains in office until a new president has been taken in, will nominate a prime minister. The current legislative period ends on December 21st. The political stage of Romania is facing a change - the coming months promise to be exciting!
