Climate protection begins in schools: students shape their future!

Yspertal, Österreich - A strong sign for environmental education is set in Austria: The Higher Group and Economy Yspertal , the only vocational higher school for climate protection and sustainable business, has been training around 350 pupils and 45 teachers in essential ecological topics for 35 years. The school offers two decisive disciplines: environmental and local economy as well as water management. Their unique curriculum includes central areas such as ecology, climate protection and resource protection, which makes it an important institution in the field of education for sustainable development.

But the commitment does not stop here. As klimaschutz.de , schools are actively supported in reducing their CO2 emissions to a minimum and establishing a sustainable climate protection culture. This project promotes cooperation within the school community by involving teachers, students and other staff in order to develop climate protection measures. In a pilot phase, four schools are initially checked before another 40 should benefit. The students develop their own climate protection concepts based on specific, individual suggestions to actively protect the climate.

The training at the HLUW YSPERTAL not only forms specialists for the labor market, but also prepares the young people for the challenges of climate change. With 2000 graduates that work in environmentally relevant professions, the school impressively shows how important practical education is in this context. The aim is to enable young people to implement sustainable changes in their private life.

The combination of climate protection and democratic participation in schools is also intended to increase acceptance and understanding of these measures. It is expected that the influence of the pupils beyond the school premises and acts into their families and local politics, which can promote a more sustainable lifestyle and a proactive attitude towards climate protection.
