Höxter celebrates: Music school is booming with new opportunities in the first city year!

In the city of Höxter, the takeover of the music school by the city administration made a remarkable contribution to musical education. Mayor Daniel Hartmann emphasized the positive development of the music school offer, which offers a wide range of possibilities and brings together people of all ages. Around 630 pupils, aged to 80, currently benefit from the lessons that are distributed over 184 weekly teaching units.

Klaudia Knapp, the head of the music school, emphasized that the demand for qualified music lessons is enormous. This creates waiting lists in many subjects. Particularly noteworthy is the "Jekits" program (every child instrument, dancing, singing), which is offered in three primary schools and enables free music lessons to the first graders. In the last school year, 272 students, including all 224 first graders, took part in this program. Thanks to a state funding of almost 40,000 euros, this offer could be realized.

Various collaborations strengthen the music school

An exciting development is working with local music clubs. The music school has closed seven cooperations in which it takes over the training of young musicians. There is also a partnership with Lebenshilfe Brakel that supports lessons as part of the “Aktion Mensch” project. These initiatives show how important it is to give both young people and adults access to music, which is also emphasized by departmental Stefan Fellmann.

In the period from July 2023 to July 2024, the music school organized a number of events. A total of 51 events were organized, including countless school foreplets, concerts and musical accompaniment, in which 1,023 students performed and around 7,900 listeners. The highlights of these events were the Christmas concert on the marketplace, the large music school concert entitled "Full Kraft: Holz meets sheet metal", the Jazz-Matinee of the BigBand HX and a flash mob on the European elections.

To further strengthen the music school in January 2024 the "Förderverein of the Musikschule Höxter e.V." founded. This association will offer important support, for example by buying instruments and organizing cultural excursions and workshops. Mayor Hartmann confirmed that the music school was an essential part of cultural life in Höxter and that the city will do everything possible to continue to promote and expand this successful model.

With continuous work and the diverse offers, the Höxter music school impressively shows how important it is to promote musical talents and to create access to cultural activities.
