Digital future for Heilbronn schools: tablets for 20,000 students!

Heilbronn, Deutschland - In Heilbronn, an important Initiative to support digital education starts: The city and the Dieter Schwarz Foundation are working together for the equipment of students and teachers with tablets. All 20,000 students at Heilbronn schools will benefit from this innovative project, which is intended to further expand the digital infrastructure in schools. According to Mayor Harry Mergel, this is a unique project of this size in Germany, which is expected to run by 2030. Already as part of the "digital educational offensive Heilbronn", 24 out of 35 schools in urban sponsors have been interested in participation, as reported by the Dieter Schwarz Stiftung

In the current project, tablets are purchased centrally, with the city of Heilbronn covering the costs for infrastructure and IT support. The costs for passive cabling and other digital components amount to around 4.5 million euros. In order to train the teachers in dealing with the new devices, the Academy for Innovative Education and Management (AIM) will offer supporting workshops. So far, 2,100 tablets have already been distributed, and another 10,000 are to follow. But that's not all: in addition to the devices, concepts for effective use in the classroom, which the schools have to submit in advance, are also required, as highlighted by

The devices remain the property of the city, but may be used by the students for school purposes and taken home. Measures such as youth protection filters ensure that the tablets are used responsibly. Teachers and students report positive experiences: The use of tablets not only promotes access to digital learning resources, but also the personal responsibility of the students in dealing with modern technologies. This comprehensive digital educational infrastructure should not only open up new learning paths to the students, but also contribute to equality of opportunities, as Mergel emphasizes.
