Digital school lesson in Salzburg: Children expose outdated roles!

In the heart of Salzburg, a pioneering event took place on February 27, 2025: the presentation of the digital school lesson "Rolle forward - trip to a world in which I can become everything" by Lea - Let’s Empower Austria. This initiative aims to encourage children to discover their interests and talents beyond traditional gender roles. "With the digital school lesson, children are encouraged to discover their own interests and strengths, regardless of stereotypical role images," emphasized Daniela Gutschi, the State Councilor for Women and Education in Salzburg.

Together with teachers and students, a practical concept was developed that contains two complete teaching units. These combine interactive exercises, discussion tasks and knowledge inputs that aim to play out of outdated gender roles in a playful way. According to Hanna Schneider, project manager at LEA, teachers actively participated in the development and had the opportunity to test the format during a test phase. Nalan Gündüz, director of Lea, was pleased with the success of the digital school lesson, which was carried out in the Campus Mirabell elementary school as a pilot school and hopes for a broad implementation in Austria.

a free offer for schools

The digital school lesson is available as a free offer for elementary school teachers. Interested parties can request access to the videos and the booklet for an online form. This initiative is part of LEA's overarching goal of promoting gender equality in Austria and enable women and girls to develop free potential. "The dismantling of outdated role models is crucial," said Gutschi, in order to emphasize equality at school as a central task. Further information as well as the materials for this offer are available on the website of Let’s Empower Austria
