Minister of Education Return relies on early childhood education in Vienna!

Judenplatz, 1010 Wien, Österreich - Vienna, 03.03.2025 - After his engagement, the new Minister of Education Christoph Wegenkrei (NEOS) visited a church kindergarten in the city center of Vienna as the first official act. This sends a powerful signal for early childhood education. The visit underlines the high appreciation for this essential education area and confirms that strengthening elementary pedagogy plays a central role in the new government program, as the St. Nikolausstiftung, the supporter of the kindergarten, announced. Managing Director Elmar Walter emphasized the importance of early education for the further educational path of our children.

The government program, which was decided by ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS, contains a number of planned measures. These include a step plan for reducing group sizes, a mandatory second kindergarten year and the expansion of multi -professional teams. Walter emphasized that these steps are important to increase quality and support the specialists in kindergarten. The St. Nikolaus Foundation regards the integration of elementary pedagogy into the Ministry of Education as a significant progress for the sustainable upgrading of this education sector. "We look forward to further constructive cooperation," said Susanna Haas, the pedagogical director of the foundation.

The day of elementary pedagogy that will be committed tomorrow brings additional confirmations for the importance of early education. Minister of Education Heinz Faßmann said that the kindergarten is the first educational institution in our system and contributes decisively to the development of the children. The government program therefore provides for the formation of an advisory board for elementary pedagogy in order to strengthen nationwide cooperation and to develop uniform quality standards. In addition, the kindergarten places are to be expanded across the board. A new, binding educational and care framework plan for all facilities is also being developed. Faßmann paid tribute to the commitment of the elementary educators and their role in the education and development of the children: "They make a valuable contribution to our education system and society," said the minister.

Developments to strengthen early childhood education open up new perspectives for children throughout Austria. The new, dynamic team, with return, will ensure that the basic educational needs of the children are effectively met, which forms the basis for their further educational career.
