Traffic light coalition shortly before the agreement: Is there a plan B?

In Austria, a political turn is made: the two large parties of the traffic light coalition, ÖVP and SPÖ have already given the green light for a new government program and the list of minister. According to OE24 , the approval of the respective board was given on Friday. If the "yes" of the NEOS is also pending on Monday, the angry could be carried out by Federal President van der Bellen on Monday. The following government declaration in the National Council would then be scheduled for Friday.

But the negotiations are not yet dry. As Today, the parties are still sitting at the negotiating table. The NEOS are crucial to secure the narrow majority from a mandate and receive the judicial and education departments. However, the parties are silent about the exact state of the conversations. A planned date with Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen did not take place on Friday, since the negotiations were paused on this day after a short intermezzo.

Plan B of the parties

There are already rumors that ÖVP and SPÖ could fall back on a plan B if the basis of the NEOs of the triple coalition refuses to consent. In this case, they would switch directly to a coalition of two. The talks between the parties are ongoing and statements are announced for the evening to communicate the current state of negotiations.
