Vienna politics in focus: City takes over controversial stadium project!

The city of Vienna is in a huge change, because it is planning to build the long-awaited long-distance tension terminal in the third district itself. After years of the back and forth, which is characterized by failed PPP agreements (“public private partnership”), it has now been decided that the city is responsible. The originally planned investors, Donau Busterminal Realization GmbH under Ariel Muzicant and Markus Teufel, have announced that it would give up the project due to increasing construction costs. This led to the cancellation of the contracts by the annoyed city administration, such as the Kurier reported.

In addition, the city also plans to buy the Austria stadium in favorites and wants to operate the fair in the Prater on its own. Economist Oliver Fritz from WiFo described the investments as necessary in areas that belong to the public sector - but the stadium sounds voices that demand more critical consideration of meaning. Political consultants also emphasize that these decisions must be considered in the context of an upcoming election year, since critics question the massive use of tax money. The closure of the art forum as well as a lack of support for the Anton-Proksch-Institut are also under discussion, such as ORF Vienna.

construction plans and challenges

With the sole construction of the long -distance breast terminal, however, it is also not enough: the office complex including the hotel and supermarket is first put back and the final plan is still in the stars. The project is to be promoted "as quickly as possible", whereby the final designs are unclear, since the copyrights are not in the city. Less plans could also be hindered by possible legal disputes between the city and the former investors. The cost of the cost of the city is previously unknown, but could lead to an enormous financial burden.

Despite all the uncertainties, it is noted: the city of Vienna has decided to finally and alone to realize the long-distance breast terminal, while the Austria Stadium and the fair focus. Option plans testify to a clear will to design, even if the way there remains rocky.
