Wels 2025: Large projects form the city - Traunbrücke and Volksgarten!

in Wels in 2025 are marked by numerous major projects that will change the cityscape sustainably. A highlight is the construction of the seventh bridge over the Traun, which offers pedestrians and cyclists a connection to Schleißheim. According to Mayor Johann Knoll (ÖVP), the bridge will bring a significant improvement in cycling mobility: "I only need 15 minutes from the Schleißheim town center to Welser Stadtplatz - and that is safe from car traffic." Preparations are already underway and the opening could take place in the first quarter of 2025, as Mobility City Councilor Stefan Ganzert (SPÖ) reports. The cooperation with the surrounding communities is also noteworthy, since these are involved in the construction costs of around 4.6 million euros, such as

conversion of the folk garden and renovations

But that's not all: Another spectacular project is the conversion of the folk garden into a Central Park. The demolition work of the eastern exhibition halls, which are scheduled to start in 2025, cost around five million euros and are the first step to a new leisure paradise with large green areas and numerous leisure opportunities. Mayor Andreas Rabl (FPÖ) describes the project as a "facial change" for Wels. Investments are also made for the trotting racing track in the west: the urgently needed renovation costs 800,000 euros. It is planned to make a new stable building and improvements for the gastronomy, paired with financial support from the Linz Trabenverein and the city of Wels.

In addition, a new residential project is realized on the former local station area, which includes 200 apartments and a local supplier. City Councilor Ralph Schäfer (FPÖ) describes this project as a prime example of urban densification. Overall, the apartments funded in other districts such as the Pernau and in the north of the city are also created in Wels. Tripadvisor reports, the city already has an important role in leisure activities and attracts tourists from the area.
