Porsche plans controversial tunnel - city policy in turmoil!
A planned private tunnel for Wolfgang Porsche, chairman of the supervisory board of Porsche AG, causes excitement in Salzburg. This tunnel, which is to serve as an access to his newly acquired villa, once owned by the famous writer Stefan Zweig, includes a length of 500 meters and a cavern for up to twelve vehicles. According to OE24 Porsche acquired the corresponding right of use by the city of Salzburg for 40,000 euros, which is considered an extremely favorable sum. The mayor of the city, Bernhard Auinger, clarified that not only access, but also the right to build and use the tunnel were granted on urban ground. This was done under the approval of the former ÖVP mayor Harald Preuner.
political controversy and legal concerns
These developments have caused heated discussions in urban politics. Inge Haller, club chairman of the citizen list, expressed serious concerns about pricing and called for an independent examination by an expert. She found that the calculations were based on an older report, which, according to Haller, was not relevant for the current case. A review of the municipal control authority was also sought. In addition, the planning city councilor Anna Schiester emphasized the need for a single permit for the garage, since the area around the Kapuzinerberg is considered grassland and part of a landscape protection area. This could result in a necessary change to the area dedication plan, as Salzburg.orf.at reported.
ex-mayor Preuner defended his permits and replied to the allegations that a scandal would be constructed here. He argued that there was no obligation with the sum of 40,000 euros to include the local council. The contract for the tunnel was signed on April 4, 2024, at a time when Auinger was elected, but was not yet in office. The debate about the permits will continue to keep urban politics in suspense and could raise far -reaching questions about spatial planning.
