The future of petrol stations in change

In view of an impending combustion champion in the European Union, the future of petrol stations is currently being hotly discussed. From 2035, only new cars may be sold, which do not emit no greenhouse gases, as the EU recently decided. Herbert W. Rabl, spokesman for the petrol station interest association, is optimistic: "The gas station as an institution is not threatened." Petrol stations have long since developed into social meeting points that go far beyond refueling. Today, around 60 percent of sales are generated by the sale of snacks and drinks as well as through additional services such as car washes.

Rabl indicates that petrol stations will continue to play a central role in mobility in the future. The discussion about alternative fuels such as e-fuel also gets louder because they could offer potential for sustainable use of petrol stations. It remains to be seen how the industry will adapt to the change in mobility. "The petrol station lives from the fact that it sells mobility", so Rabl in an interview with focus online . The challenges are great, but the actors in the industry are determined to remain relevant in the coming years.
