Lobautunnel: Environment Minister warns of serious wrong path!
Laimgrubengasse 10, 1060 Wien, Österreich - The planned lobaut tunnel in Vienna encounters violent resistance. The current environmental report of the Ministry of Climate Protection proves that there are significantly better traffic solutions for the region than the controversial tunnel construction. According to Greenpeace, alternative concepts that rely on the expansion of public transport and cycling infrastructure not only enable a reduction in traffic, but also less soil sealing and thus significant advantages for the climate, nature and health of the population. The project costs of the praise tunnel amount to several billion euros and lead to an increase in traffic, instead of reducing it. Greenpeace calls on the future government to remove this inefficient plan from the Federal Reasons Act, so "https://www.ots.at/presseaus-sung/ots_20250205_ots0063/greenpeace-lobautunnel-ser-fuer- and-Sicherheit" target = "_ blank"> ots .

The climate and energy expert Jasmin Duregger from Greenpeace recognized the great scope of the project and explained: “In many ways, the lobaut tunnel is the worst proposal for the Viennese's traffic problems. It causes more traffic and thus damage to the environment, climate, nature and humans.” Regardless of the costs, the economic benefit of the tunnel construction is also questioned. Experts from the Vienna University of Technology point out that when building train stations and cycle paths, significantly more workplaces are created compared to the investment than in tunnel construction. This shows the need to seriously consider alternative traffic projects, as well as wwf
The tunnel project would not only lead directly through the Donau-Auen National Park, but also significantly increase the greenhouse gases. The long -standing opposition of environmental protection groups against the construction underlines the urgency of a rethink in transport policy. It remains to be seen to what extent the new government reacts to the facts available and whether the Lobaut tunnel is actually rejected.
