Fight for culture: theater funding in Eggenfelden on the brink!

The final annual meeting of the ÖDP/Independent Citizens district council faction took place in the Göttler inn in Simbach. Numerous topics from district politics were discussed here, including the demand that the city of Eggenfelden, as the “largest beneficiary,” should participate in the financing of the Theater an der Rott. In a press release, parliamentary group leader Sepp Rettenbeck expressed cautious optimism about the challenges that the Rottal Inn clinics face as a result of the Germany-wide hospital reform. He emphasized that many fundamental measures have already been taken thanks to the referendum 15 years ago.

With regard to the planned construction of a hospice in Pfarrkirchen, Barbara Engleder recalled the requirements for an inpatient hospice that had already been formulated in the district council elections five years ago. Engleder is pushing for construction to begin quickly, as this would close an important gap in the region. In addition, Marianne Watzenberger would like to see more commitment for the newly launched eco-model region, especially in the area of organic products in the Rottal Inn clinics.

Financial challenges and theater funding

The discussion about the district's financial situation was also addressed, with Albert Madl predicting difficult times ahead. He pointed out that the “fat years of high levy rates” were over and emphasized the need to save in the district budget. The nuclear power situation was also discussed during the discussions. Josef Lirsch expressed his incomprehension about the demand for more nuclear power and nuclear waste, while at the same time the district is investing against the construction of a nuclear waste repository.

One of the most important concerns for the new year remains the financing of the Theater an der Rott. Edith Lirsch described the preservation of this “cultural treasure” as a top priority. The ÖDP parliamentary group suggested that Eggenfelden contribute to the financing costs in order to keep them within “reasonable limits”. She also expressed the wish that the Bavarian government factions would provide funding for the ongoing operation of the theater.

Parallel to these developments, there have also been changes in the healthcare system nationwide. How bundesgesundheitsministerium.de reported, the outdated system of flat rates per case will be ended. Instead, clinics that meet quality criteria should receive a flat rate, which offers them a kind of guarantee of existence in order to ensure comprehensive medical care, especially in rural areas. This reform is intended to create greater transparency in hospital services, with a law supporting patients' rights starting on January 1, 2024.
