Carinthia's mechanical engineering is fighting impending tariffs from the USA!
The mechanical engineering world is head: The Austrian company Kostwein has decided to open a new production facility in Greenville County, South Carolina, which could have a significant impact on the company and the region. With an investment volume of $ 8.5 million, 95 new jobs are created. CEO Hans Kostwein explained that the company, which works in mechanical and investment technology, operated not only in Carinthia, but also also in Croatia and India.
But the joy of growth is overshadowed by the impending trade sanctions by former US President Donald Trump, which could also affect Europe. Kostwein warns of possible negative consequences for the export transactions to the United States and emphasizes: "I see this customs development with great concern." The protection tariffs could make the products significantly more expensive and thus endanger the competitiveness, which could also have noticeable consequences in Carinthia, since the United States is now the fifth largest export market in the federal state, as ORF Carinthia reported.
