The B6 bypass at Harmannsdorf-Tresdorf, which has been approved for traffic since the end of September, is finally available to drivers after a long waiting time. Originally, the road was to be inaugurated on September 20 at an opening ceremony, but the celebration was postponed due to the devastating flood events in September, as ORF reported. The bypass brings relief for urban traffic and is primarily intended to relieve the heavily burdened districts of Harmannsdorf and Tresdorf.

important transport connection

With the new bypass, the daily traffic volume of around 12,400 vehicles on the B6 between Harmannsdorf and Tresdorf is significantly reduced. According to road construction director Josef Decker, 90 percent of through traffic have been shifted to the bypass. This project, whose first plans started in 1968 and its construction began in 2021, also promotes flood protection in the region. In conjunction with the bypass, additional protective measures such as the flood protection embankment and a retention pool were implemented. These projects have already proven to be useful during the flood, the NÖN also reported

The road construction work has brought further delays after the flood disaster, but now benefit from the outsourced traffic routing. This bypass also represents a direct connection of the northern district to the S1, which improves the approach to the large rooms of Korneuburg and Stockerau.
