Gropius Bau celebrates the end of the Tiravanija exhibition with performance!
On January 9, 2025, Gropius Bau in Berlin is the focus of cultural events. On this day, the exhibition "Rirkrit Tiravanija: Happiness is not always funny", which offered visitors numerous experiences over three months, finally celebrated with a performance.
The performance is entitled "Sintam Manifesto" and will be presented on January 12 between 4 and 5 p.m. by Mon Sisu Satrawaha and Tanaad of the collective @Unthaitled. This performance examines the history and politics of Thai marriage migration to Germany, while at the same time it addresses the colonial view of Asian women, who are often perceived as carers or exotic sex objects. Before this end of the exhibition, the Gropius Bau also invited to Jam sessions and table tennis.
neckline from a unique exhibition
The exhibition itself, which was under the direction of Thai artist Rirkrit Tiravanija, has been expanding exhibitions for over three decades. Through his work, Tiravanija creates rooms for social encounters and offers visitors opportunities for eating, drinking, playing and resting. His earlier cooking campaigns aroused both enthusiasm and uncertainty among those present.
Tiravanija, son of a Thai diplomat and grew up on four continents, brings numerous cultural references into his work thanks to his diversified way of life. These include different languages as well as quotes from art, film and architecture. The works contained in the exhibition, which extend from 1987 to the present, question the role of art and offer alternatives to one -sided stories in cultural institutions. The exhibition is inspired by Rainer Werner Fassbinder's film "Fear Eat Soul" from 1974 and also addresses cultural clichés and political conditions in Germany.
The Gropius Bau will also announce that the Baubau children's scope is taking a break between January 20 and March 21, which is also an adaptation of the ongoing programs.
