Building plans in Gütersloh: XXXLutz takes over Porta without changes!
The takeover of the porta Group by the furniture giant XXXLutz has no effect on the planned construction project in Gütersloh, as both company spokesman and the city of Gütersloh confirm. The construction of several buildings is planned in a parking lot, including a gym and catering area as well as offices and a hotel.
In terms of the new premises, there is currently no clarity about who will receive it. In addition, it is expected that the takeover does not bring any changes to the concept of new buildings. Porta has also explained that there is no change of schedule, even if the building permit is still pending. However, this could already be available in January 2025, as building director Albrecht Pförtner confirms.
Details for takeover
The takeover of Porta by XXXLutz comprises about 140 locations in Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia and also includes the brands Boss, Asko and Möbel Last. XXXLutz, as number 2 in the German furniture trade, is expected to generate sales of 3.98 billion euros for 2023, while Porta, number 6, has generated sales of 1.14 billion euros. Together, this results in a combined sales of 5.12 billion euros.
The decision to sell was made by the Porta, Gärtner and Fahrkamp owner families after careful consideration. However, the sale is subject to antitrust approval, and both parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. Paul de Jong, managing director of Porta-Holding, sees the takeover as a good addition for both companies. The start -up families Gärtner and Fahrkamp are eliminated in the course of the takeover from the company.
Thomas Saliger, company spokesman for the XXXLutz Group, expresses a positive statement about the collaboration and highlights the challenges in online trade.
