In a terrible tragedy in Ubstadt-Weiher, Baden-Württemberg, three people died on Tuesday afternoon when a tanker truck collided with a light rail train. The accident occurred at an unguarded railway crossing on State Road 552, with both the tanker truck loaded with heating oil and the light rail train bursting into flames. Serious injuries and many minor injuries
The 49-year-old driver of the tanker truck suffered serious injuries in the impact and was flown to hospital by rescue helicopter. After the accident site has been secured, the recovery of the light rail will continue throughout the day, and the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (AVG) plans to dismantle the rail into individual parts. Due to the serious accident, the railway line S31 and S32 between Zeutern and Odenheim will remain closed for several days. A replacement rail service was set up to transport the affected passengers.
