In a comprehensive initiative to modernize the Pustertalbahn, travelers must expect significant changes from April 14, 2025. The railway line between Bruneck and San Candido will be closed until June 2, 2025 in order to carry out extensive modernization, technical and safety work. During the construction work, a rail replacement bus service will be set up. This also applies until June 2, 2025. However, it should be noted that bicycle transport is not possible in these replacement buses. Interestingly, the route in the lower Puster Valley between Fortezza and Bruneck will remain closed until December 13, 2025, which indicates the extensive construction planning that is important for the entire region.
Construction work and new routes
The work includes the installation of the European train control system ETCS and the complete renewal of the overhead lines. These measures are part of a broader plan to improve rail infrastructure, which also includes the modernization of existing lines and facilities.
