Bahnhof Göttingen: Conversion of the travel center extends further!
Bahnhof Göttingen: Conversion of the travel center extends further!
At the Göttingen train station, the renovation work of the travel center surprisingly continues to be delayed. Although it was originally planned to complete the modernization by the end of 2024, the travel center has been closed since December 2023 and is currently operated with a temporary solution. According to the Deutsche Bahn, unforeseen structural findings have made new planning necessary, which makes the completion of the project uncertain. Further details about the reasons for the delays were not published by the railway, but a spokesman promised that the new center is equipped with modern furniture and technology as soon as the planning is completed, such as Göttinger Tageblatt reported.
In addition, new bicycle parking spaces are created at the train station. In a modern storage facility at the Göttingen stop, 300 covered bicycle parking spaces were set up, which replace the old, dilapidated system. These new places are part of the Bike+Ride offensive of Deutsche Bahn, which helps counties and municipalities to create more space for bicycles at train stations. Together with existing facilities, such as the bicycle parking house with space for 700 bikes and 1,600 parking spaces on the east side, the offer for cyclists is significantly improved, or how Deutsche Bahn Demand for these facilities is high nationwide.
