Göttingen train station: Renovation of the travel center continues to drag on!

The renovation work on the travel center at Göttingen train station is surprisingly delayed. Although the modernization was originally planned to be completed by the end of 2024, the travel center has been closed since December 2023 and is currently operating with an interim solution. According to Deutsche Bahn, unforeseen structural findings have necessitated re-planning, making the completion of the project uncertain. The railway did not release further details about the reasons for the delays, but a spokesman promised that the new center would be equipped with modern furniture and technology as soon as planning was completed Göttingen Tageblatt reported.

In addition, new bicycle parking spaces will be created at the train station. 300 covered bicycle parking spaces have been set up in a modern parking facility at the Göttingen bus stop, replacing the old, dilapidated facility. These new spaces are part of Deutsche Bahn's Bike+Ride offensive, which helps districts and municipalities create more space for bicycles at train stations. Together with existing facilities, such as the bicycle parking garage with space for 700 bikes and 1,600 parking spaces on the east side, the offer for cyclists is significantly improved, or what German railway explained that demand for these facilities is high nationwide.
