East Tyrol fire brigade shines: 70 members pass the radio performance competition!
Last weekend, from February 21st to 23rd, 2025, there was great excitement among the East Tyrolean fire brigade members when around 70 fire brigade members in Telfs took part in a challenging competition for the radio performance badge in bronze and silver. A total of an impressive 273 participants came to demonstrate their knowledge in the field of radio communication. What was particularly noteworthy was that a silver competition took place for the first time, in which 139 participants showed their skills. Anyone wishing to receive the award had to complete various stations, including equipment knowledge and delivering a message. These challenges were masterfully mastered, and 44 applicants from the Lienz district received the bronze badge, while 26 Florianis were proud to receive the silver badge. This meant that the “white flag” could be hoisted in East Tyrol, a sign of the successful conclusion of the competition, as Dolomitenstadt reported.
The competition consisted of five exciting stations: from equipment knowledge to creating and transmitting a message to a radio application. The candidates not only had to excel in theory, but also demonstrate practical skills. A particular focus was on the correct handling of radio devices and compliance with the Tyrolean radio regulations. The participants had to apply theoretical knowledge in order to correctly pass on messages and situation reports that had previously been recorded, as well as manage a radio operation in the Florian station. The Jenbach fire department was also represented: LM Mario Valorzi was able to successfully acquire the bronze badge and BM Emanuel Hanser the silver badge. A big thank you also goes to the radio officer HV Stefan Schiessl, who prepared the two of them excellently for this challenging competition, as reported by ffjenbach.
