On March 13, 2025, the best innovative projects and founders were honored as part of the Austrian Startup Prize PHÖNIX. These prestigious awards highlight outstanding achievements by start-ups, spin-offs and prototypes and, in particular, promote the visibility of women in the technology industry. These teams come from different federal states, including Vienna, Upper Austria and Carinthia.
The start-up award, supported by the Ministry of Science and Economics as well as partners such as the IV, FFG and the aws, aims to promote innovative ways to create jobs in Austria. State Secretary Elisabeth Zehetner emphasized the importance of a business-friendly environment for founders, which requires courage and a willingness to take risks. The participation of women is particularly impressive: over half of the projects submitted in the “Female Entrepreneurs” category were submitted by female founders or researchers, which impressively underlines the entrepreneurial spirit in this area ots.at reported.
Innovations that inspire
The award winners in the various categories presented technologies with great future potential. Ensemo GmbH presented a novel method with which natural microorganisms are automatically integrated into seeds in order to reduce the use of agrochemicals and protect the environment. ProtectLiB developed a safe process for recycling lithium-ion batteries, while NovoArc presented an innovative technology that makes it possible to make drug lipids stable and orally administrable. These projects impressively demonstrate how successful ideas from research and universities can be converted into marketable products, as the FFG emphasizes.
Overall, the best projects were ceremoniously recognized, and the winning teams not only received trophies, but also the opportunity to take part in national and international specialist events. This award aims to promote both visibility and exchange between science and business in order to sustainably increase innovative strength in Austria.
