Women from Neunkirchen: The fight against unemployment is still necessary!

In the Neunkirchen district, the current unemployment figures show worrying trends - especially among women. This group is not only numerically well represented among job seekers, but is also often affected by structural disadvantages, such as a lack of child care. The “NESIB” project, which has been active in Neunkirchen for 20 years, has set itself the task of returning women to the world of work and offers tailor-made support. Despite the challenges, however, there are encouraging developments: According to current data, the number of unemployed women in Lower Austria fell by 9.2 percent in February, which is greater than the 3.6 percent decline among men, as reported by the Public Employment Service (AMS).

In the Neunkirchen district in particular, unemployment among women fell by 9.3 percent to 1,165 people, while the number of unemployed men fell by 3.7 percent and reached 1,710 people. Even if these positive figures are encouraging, the labor force participation of women in Lower Austria continues to lag behind that of men, with values of 80 percent compared to 82 percent. In order to promote equality in the labor market, the AMS plans to use at least 52 percent of labor market policy funding specifically for women in 2023, as AMS boss Petra Hofmann explained. At the same time, 372 people in the district remain registered as long-term unemployed, so the fight against long-term unemployment remains a top priority.

Positive developments despite challenges

The success of the “NESIB” project shows the importance of targeted support measures, while a total of 407 vacancies in the region were filled. In addition, 769 job seekers were successfully placed in the first quarter. Given the gender gap that still exists, much remains to be done. The AMS reports that one in ten customers at AMS NÖ has been unemployed for over a year. It is therefore essential to continue efforts to combat long-term unemployment in order to ensure sustainable integration into the labor market. This is all part of a broader strategy that aims to create equal opportunities and reintegrate women into the work process, as well meinkreis.at confirmed.
