Serious accident at work in the quarry: Styrian seriously injured!

On June 12, 2025, at around 10:30 a.m., a serious industrial accident occurred in the Voestalpine quarry in the Steyrling lime works, Upper Austria. A 44-year-old machine operator from the Leoben district, Styria, was seriously injured when he tried to catch an inner pipe weighing around 20 kg. According to 5min.at, the accident was caused by a tilting of the inner pipe, which led to the inner pipe head being released from the catch bell and reaching a fall height of around 2.5 meters.

The affected machine operator suffered serious injuries to his right thumb. Immediately after the incident, an emergency doctor provided first aid before the injured worker was transported to Med Campus III in Linz in the C14 rescue helicopter. The local authorities, more precisely the Wels Labor Inspectorate, were informed about the industrial accident.

The situation of industrial accidents in Germany

Parallel to these incidents, a report by BG BAU shows that the cases of occupational accidents and occupational diseases are also increasing worryingly in Germany. In 2022, increased cases of noise-induced hearing loss were recorded, leading to increased awareness and further educational efforts. These initiatives aim to educate employees about the irreversibility of hearing damage and the need for adequate UV protection.

Overall, the serious accidents at work in various regions illustrate how important safety measures and education for employees in industrial sectors are. Both recent incidents and statistical data highlight the need to act preventively and ensure the safety of workers.
