Customs strikes hard: Thousands of counterfeit luxury items seized!
In November 2024, the customs authorities at Vienna Airport scored a significant blow against product piracy. In a special operation, they discovered more than 5,000 counterfeit luxury items, most of which came from Thailand and were destined for Great Britain and the Netherlands. The seized goods included imitations of high-priced brands such as Louis Vuitton and Gucci, as well as numerous counterfeit Nike sporting goods such as crown reported.
The precise check in the cargo area revealed a large number of counterfeits: 1,402 pairs of shoes, 1,279 bags and backpacks, 415 sports shirts, 378 caps, 193 jackets, 318 pieces of jewelry, 115 belts and 318 tracksuits were seized by the customs officers. These counterfeits were sold misusing brand names but are inferior in quality. Finance Minister Gunter Mayr expressed his delight at the success of the operation: “Product piracy is not a trivial offense!” This highlights the seriousness of efforts to stop the illegal movement of goods, as well noe.ORF.at highlighted.
Vienna Airport plays a central role in international goods traffic and attracts an enormous volume of passengers every year. It is not uncommon for illegal goods to pass through Austria and customs authorities are constantly on alert to detect such transactions. This incident clearly shows how important the work of customs is to protect the integrity of the market and protect consumers from inferior products.
