Warning strike by the Plön district transport company: traffic is at a standstill!
A dramatic warning strike has brought the transport companies in the Plön district to a standstill! The employees and trainees of the Plön district transport company (VKP) stopped work on Monday in order to build pressure in the collective bargaining negotiations surrounding the nationwide railway collective agreement (ETV). “Traffic is at a standstill,” explained Frank Schischefsky from the Verdi union. The locations affected are Plön, Preetz, Schönberg, Lütjenburg, Bornhöved and Kiel. This three-day strike will last until the end of the shift on Wednesday and affects around 5,500 employees in six federal states!
Background and demands
The warning strike is a clear message to the negotiators! The union wants to have a decisive influence on the negotiations on December 5th in Fulda. Markus Jakupak, the responsible union secretary for the VKP, emphasized that a result is urgently needed. Unlike the ongoing strikes in the private bus industry in Schleswig-Holstein, which have been going on for weeks, this strike focuses on the railway collective agreement, which is important for bus companies, local rail transport and freight railways.
The effects are enormous: commuters and students have to prepare for massive restrictions on local transport. The negotiations affect not only Schleswig-Holstein, but also Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony and Rhineland-Palatinate. The situation remains tense and the next few days will be crucial for the future of employees in the industry!
