Waldbrand in Semriach: Fire brigade fights against flames in difficult terrain!
A dramatic forest fire near Semriach, which is located in the Graz area district on Friday, has made the emergency services in high willingness to alert. Around 200 firefighters have been tirelessly deployed since Thursday evening to combat the inferno that rages on an area of around two hectares. The extinguishing work is supported by a helicopter of the Federal Army. As the Volksblatt , the fire was discovered at around 9 p.m. by a passing driver who immediately alerted the fire brigade. During the night, the assignment on 18 fire departments with over 40 vehicles and two fire brigade drones had grown, while the police, red cross and mountain rescue were also on site.

The extinguishing work is extremely challenging because the fire rages in steep terrain. As Oe24 is now increasingly necessary because the emergency services are now required on the ground fight the difficult conditions. Despite the progress, the flames are still not under control for more than twelve hours after their outbreak. According to those responsible, the extinguishing work could take several days.
The Semriatorstrasse (L318) was closed in both directions on Friday morning to facilitate the work for the emergency services, and a local diversion was set up. The cause of the fire has so far been unclear, investigations have already been initiated and an investigator has been consulted. The fire brigade remains on site to be able to react quickly to new developments.
