VW in Emden before difficult times: threatening wage cuts and loss of job!

Volkswagen AG faces significant changes due to its financial situation. In a works meeting on December 6th in the VW plant in Emden, in which around 4,000 employees took part, drastic measures were discussed. According to News38 , the company plans to reduce the wage by ten percent for its employees. In addition, operational terminations and possible work closings are up for debate, while the collective bargaining with IG Metall is stagnating.

In a ray of hope for the VW employees, an agreement between Volkswagen and IG Metall was recently reported, which came about after over 70 hours of negotiations. The agreement also stipulates that there will be no wages by 2027 and that the monthly remuneration remains unchanged. The increased vacation allowance paid beforehand is also eliminated. For production, this means that certain models will be relocated to Puebla, Mexico from 2027, while in Wolfsburg the production of ID.3 and Cupra Born will be maintained.
