In a shocking judgment, the Cologne district court sentenced a 39-year-old man to seven and a half years in prison on Friday after attacking an innocent hobby bird customer in Rheindorf. The perpetrator stabbed the victim 26 times with a knife and left him seriously injured in the field. Despite the clear intention to kill him, he benefited happiness and coincidence, because the injured party only survived by quickly intervening the emergency services. Judge Sabine Grobecker said the case was "almost a question of life and death", with the quick action of the police decided on the fate of the Vogelfreund. The judgment was alleviated for the accused because, according to the judge, he "resigned from an attempted killing" - a legal gray area that even confuses lawyers.

Women from Düsseldorf under pressure

Another scandalous incident was recently negotiated before the Düsseldorf District Court, where a 42-year-old driver was sentenced to ten months in prison for probation and a fine of 5,000 euros. The woman had photographed it after a fatal accident in which a motorcyclist was killed, and sent the picture to her boss to explain her delay to work. Although the motorcyclist was traveling too quickly at the time of the accident, the court exposed the main debt on the accident in the illegal turning maneuver of the driver. The judge made it clear: "Without her the accident would not have happened", whereby the photos of the dying people are only an additional shock wave in this tragic case.

While the two judgments affect separate cases, they illustrate a dramatic context of serious crimes in Germany. The knife attacker remains in custody and the driver has to face the consequences of her irresponsible trade. In both cases, the dishes show a clear attitude towards dangerous behavior, lives at risk - it is through brutal attacks or through ruthless driving. The social debate on such topics is therefore all the more urgent.
