Art in everyday life: Salzburg women start a creative, hands-on exhibition!
The two Salzburg women Veronika Zangl and Mariana Hasan dare to do something unusual: They present a creative exhibition called “Fief takes off” that shows that art can be rooted in everyday life. On February 20, 2025, the hands-on exhibition in the Lehen Resident Service opens with a vernissage where visitors can become active themselves and develop their creative talents. “Art can be many things – and the simplest means are often enough,” emphasizes Zangl, who originally had little connection to fine art. Hasan discovered the calming power of painting during the pandemic, while Zangl captures photos of clouds in their unique form. The works will be exhibited for two weeks, and Zangl would like to use her artistic representation to show the possibilities that art offers, even in the small and everyday, such as crown reported.
Art and activism in focus
The relevance of art also runs through Zangl's academic work. She is part of a research group that studies the interaction between art and activism in conflict situations. This group examines how artistic strategies operate in conflictual environments and which aesthetic approaches are used in criticism. The focus is on the often ignored forms of artistic expression that are characterized by irony, grotesqueness or absurd interventions. The research aims to understand the effectiveness of such strategies and question how art can operate in the context of global conflicts, such as on the side of University of Amsterdam is explained.
The group provides valuable insights into how creative approaches challenge existing narratives and analyzes the extent to which artistic interventions are perceived by the public. Turning points in national memory are interrogated to provide a broader context for the role of art and activism. In times when conflicts often reach across national borders, research sheds light on how art can help to build bridges and open up new perspectives.
