Chancellor election 2025: Weidel scratches Merz, Scholz wobbles!

In a latest survey, there is an exciting race for the Chancellery in Germany. According to a survey by the opinion research institute Insa, the freshly elected AfD Chancellor Alice Weidel is just behind the Union candidate Friedrich Merz. While Merz has 21 percent of the vote, Weidel receives 18 percent, followed by Olaf Scholz (SPD) with 15 percent and Robert Habeck from the Greens with 14 percent. These figures come from a coordination that was carried out between December 5 and 6, 2024, and were published by the dts news agency

The political landscape seems to change quickly. The Germany trend shows that the Union is still the strongest force, but has a decline from one point at 32 percent. Scholz easily attracts with his SPD, which arrives at 16 percent, but a third of those entitled to vote is still undecided about the importance of the upcoming Bundestag election. This could have a significant impact on the turnout and the result of the new election on February 23, 2025. The survey showed that 34 percent of those who are entitled to vote have not yet decided whether they will vote. This survey is continued by Merkur and also highlights the approval of the work of the candidates: 30 percent show satisfaction with Friedrich Merz, while Alice Weidel is 21 percent.

The coming weeks could be decisive because the voters deal with their candidates. The political uncertainty and the high number of undecided could change the dynamics of the election campaign. Many citizens have not yet commented on who they want to vote for what the parties presented with new challenges and makes racing around the Chancellery even more exciting.
