Irritations in the art festival: between politics and performance in Krems!

This year's Danube Festival promises an exciting journey through art and culture. Festival manager Thomas Edlinger explains that the program design comes from the view of irritation in the liberal world, which can be observed, for example, in the context of conflicts in the Middle East and the Ukraine War. A central goal of the festival is to stimulate discourse through diverse artistic manuscripts. A striking premiere will be the documentary "Sister Courage", which accompanies a demonstration against Corona measures in Berlin. Edlinger describes the absurd situation in which demonstrators are faced with the accusation of marching with Nazis - a challenge for the political and social narrative of our time. This multifaceted examination of current topics shows the festival as a place of reflection and dialogue, as [Kleinezeitung.at] reports.

art meets concept

The festival will take place in various locations in Krems from 2nd to 4th and 9th to 11th of May and brings exciting projects such as "El Gran Retorno" by Regina José Galindo, a marching chapel playing backwards, as well as the performance of Eman Hussein, the physical work into dance. Edlinger emphasizes how these artistic actions can offer both confusion and incentives for reflection. The Vienna performance collective God’s entertainment also presents "you da da na na close", which creates a Danube double in order to shed light on the complex relationship between trade, migration and cultural experiences. A new format called "A Drink With ..." invites the audience to enter into an informal discussion with artists, which makes the festival become an unpredictable experiment.

Another aspect is the connection between art and science. The event focuses on philosophical issues from constructivism and biology, which according to [Karledlinger.com] play an increasingly important role in discourse on human perception and cognition. These approaches not only challenge our knowledge of life, but also our concepts of reality. The festival not only deals with creative forms of expression, but also with the deep questions that affect human existence - an approach that appears particularly relevant in a time growing uncertainties.
