Change of leadership in the Archbishop's Curia Salzburg: Nigg becomes Chancellor!
A significant change of management is imminent in the Archdiocese of Salzburg: From August 15, 2025, Sr. Christine Nigg (42) will succeed Elisabeth Kandler-Mayr as Chancellor of the Archbishopric Curia. This decision was announced on Tuesday by the Archdiocese. Archbishop Franz Lackner praised Sr. Nigg as a "excellent theologian and canonist", who will shape the future of the archdiocese without commission. With a broad horizon of experience that ranges from a decent career in the freight forwarding and pharmaceutical industry to theological degrees at the University of Salzburg, you bring in a valuable expertise.
Christine Nigg, born in Kufstein, has devoted himself to the spiritual values after various professional stations as a dispatcher and in marketing. Her religious career began in 2011 with entry into the community of the Holy Family. In 2019 she took her eternal vows, which means that she was committed to supporting families and charity for life. With her appointment as Chancellor, Nigg becomes a central actor within the church hierarchy, responsible for the proper documentation and networking of important decisions of the diocese, as well as in canon law. The Chancellor is therefore a key position in the administrative apparatus of a diocese.
the meaning of the eternal vow
As early as 2019, Sr. Christine Nigg celebrated her eternal promise in the parish church of St. Ulrich am Pillersee. In his speech, Archbishop Lackner emphasized the importance of eternal promises and encouraged to follow the model of Christ who lived in silent intimacy with God. For Nigg, this means that it is not only committed to spiritual, but also practically in the sense of charity. As a chancellor, she will now incorporate these values into her daily work in order to support the families in prayer and by acting for charity, as her mandate in her community demands. The upcoming handover of the office is an important step for the archdiocese and for Nigg, which could set a new course with its valuable wisdom.
