Airports in Germany are at a standstill: warning strike brings chaos on Monday!
On Monday, March 10, 2025, an all-day warning strike is expected at all major German airports, which will lead to massive flight cancellations and delays. The United Services Union (ver.di) has called a strike to draw attention to the inadequate offers from employers in the current collective bargaining. The major airports in Munich, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Cologne/Bonn, and Hamburg, as well as numerous others, are affected. It is already known that passengers will have to adapt their trips as the impact on flights from Austria is still unclear, as the AUA reports.
Demands and background of the strike
The warning strike is organized by the ver.di union, which is demanding a wage increase of eight percent or at least 350 euros more per month. In addition, higher surcharges should be paid for particularly stressful work, and training allowances should increase by 200 euros. “The employees at the airports do indispensable work for the smooth running of air traffic and deserve appropriate pay,” explains Christine Behle, deputy chairwoman of ver.di. This is not the first strike as part of the ongoing collective bargaining, as actions have already been called for in other areas such as hospitals and kindergartens due to similar inconsistencies with employers.
Ver.di announced the strike in good time to give travelers planning security. The strikes that have already taken place in Cologne, Düsseldorf and Hamburg have resulted in significant disruptions, which are also reducing national and international travel freedom. The employers, on the other hand, rejected the claims as not being able to be financed. Collective bargaining will continue on March 14-16, 2025 in Potsdam. How vol.at reported, the airport association ADV also criticized the strikes at transport infrastructure hubs, which are severely affecting air traffic.
