Elisabeth Scheiderbauer: Golden award for an unforgettable contemporary witness!
In the Vienna town hall, the remarkable contemporary witness and former dancer Elisabeth Scheiderbauer was awarded the Golden Signs of Merit of the State of Vienna. Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) presented the honor in a solemn ceremony in the Red Salon and in his speech emphasized the double meaning of her life: "Dancing to forget. Talking to remember." These words underline the challenges that Scheiderbauer, born in Vienna in 1936, experienced during her deportation to the Theresienstadt ghetto at the age of six when she was sent to the concentration camp together with her mother and sister Helga, as vienna.at emphasized.
Numerous prominent guests from politics and media were present at the honor, including members of Scheiderbauer. The “Art4strings” string quartet provided musical accompaniment. The moving evening was all reminiscent of the tireless efforts of Elisabeth Scheiderbauer to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust and the dangers of prejudices and discrimination in today's time.
