Drones save fawn: aerial view against mowing death!

In the current time of the setting of fawns that are hiding in meadows or forests, the need to save these animals is becoming increasingly clear by drone inserts. In Austria in particular, up to 25,000 fawns die from mowing works every year, which makes this method an effective solution to minimize the danger. The hunting company Hard has already successfully saved three roe deer with the help of drones, reports Vol.at .

The drones are equipped with thermal imaging cameras that enable the meadows to search the hidden fawns quickly and reliably. This use works particularly effectively in the early morning when the floor is still cool. Meadows are flown manually or after a programmed route, which increases the efficiency of the emergency actions. Despite these advantages, it is often difficult to find sufficient drone pilots. The Tyrolean Jägerverband therefore launched the "Rehkitz Rescue - Together against Mowing Dod" platform, on which drone pilots can register in order to be found by farmers and hunters.

grants and support

In order to further promote these drone -based operations, the Vorarlberg hunters grants grants that vary depending on the area. In Austria, farmers can receive the following grants for the rescue of fawns:

  • "small" (<10 ha) with € 40,
  • "medium" (10 - 20 ha) with € 70,
  • "large" (from 20 ha) with € 120 per assignment.

In addition, the purchase of bankruptcy devices is encouraged to further improve the safety of the fawn. A maximum of four such devices can be ordered per operation or hunting area, with a grant of € 50 being granted.

regulations for drone operations

The possible uses of drones in Germany have now been made easier by a temporary change of control. This change, which is valid until November 19, 2024, allows drone missions near builders to be built under certain conditions. According to drohnen.de , the minimum distance to residential areas is now 10 meters, provided the height of the drone justifies this distance. This is referred to as a 1: 1 rule and makes the rescue of animals considerably easier, since a distance of 150 meters was previously required.

The rule is used in particular for drones with a start mass of 250 grams of up to 25 kilograms. Less than 250 grams of drones are not affected and can be operated without further minimum distance. This adaptation aims to promote the use of drones for animal and nature conservation purposes and supports farmers and animal rights activists in their work.

The discussion about the protection of nature and animals is becoming increasingly important through these measures. In Germany, too, a reduction in the death of young fawns is hoped for; Over 50,000 animals die from mowing machines every year, which illustrates the urgency of such auxiliary measures. Drones with thermal imaging cameras prove to be valuable aids because they can better capture the body heat of the fawn than conventional cameras.
