BTS will return in 2026 with a new album and world tour

The reunification of the K-Pop Sensation BTS is lubricated like butter: The Septet has announced that in spring 2026 they will return with a new album and a world tour. These exciting news was announced on Tuesday during a livestream on Weverse, an online platform for fans who owned the Hybe management company. It was the first time since September 2022 that all seven members performed live together.

The band announced in a statement: "We will publish a new BTS album in spring next year. From July we will work closely on new music together." The upcoming album will be a group project and reflect the thoughts and ideas of every single member. "We approach the album with the same setting as at the beginning of our career."

According to a press release, the group will be in the United States this month to start working on new music. The album that will appear in 2026 will be its first since the anthology album "Proof" of 2022, the Japanese compilation album "BTS, The Best" from 2021 and its last studio album "Be", which was published in 2020.

The return to the concert stage

In addition to the album announcement, the band also announced a world tour that will be their first in almost four years. These news comes only a few weeks after the BTS superstars RM, V, Jimin and Jung Kook were released from military service in South Korea after successfully completing their compulsory service.

military service in South Korea

In South Korea, all defensive men between the ages of 18 and 28 are obliged to perform military service for 18 to 21 months. This military service is intended to deter aggressive behavior of rival countries such as North Korea. Six of the seven members of the group served in the military, while Suga, who was the last return, completed his service as a social service provider, which is an alternative to military service.

BTS and the legislation on military service

Jin, the oldest member of BTS, was released in June 2024, while J-Hope was released from duty in October. The South Korean law provides for special exceptions for athletes, classic and traditional musicians as well as dancers who have won top prices in certain competitions and are considered the bearer of the national prestige. K-pop stars and other entertainers do not enjoy such privileges.

However, BTS delayed its military service in 2020 after the South Korea National Assembly revised the Military Service Act. As a result, K-POP stars can delay their convocation up to the age of 30.
