Berlin cold aid: Homeless help with new offers in winter!

Berlin, Deutschland - Winter is a particularly hard time for homeless people in Berlin, such as Radio Drei Cold buses that have been on the road since November 1 offer warm drinks, soups and blankets. The Berlin cold aid started winter service with additional beds at the beginning of October. This is particularly important because many emergency accommodations are overcrowded and the help is often not sufficient to offer all needy a safe place to sleep.

The emergency accommodations are well filled

According to the report of Deutschlandfunk Kultur , the 29 emergency overnight stays and night cafés in the capital have an average of 530 places per night, but the actual need is significantly higher. Up to 700 overnight stays were registered in February. One example is the emergency accommodation of the city mission near the main station, which instead of the intended 100 places often houses up to 200 people. The facilities are an important point of contact for many, including migrants from Eastern Europe who are looking for work in Berlin.

Both the coordination office of the cold aid, which provides information about free sleeping places, as well as the committed helpers: Inside the "Frost Protection Angel" initiative, protecting against cold is not the only need. Many of the homeless also need support for work searches and integration into society. Again and again it is emphasized that it is important not only to offer short -term solutions, but also to create sustainable perspectives for those affected to support them beyond winter.
