Beauty craze in Vienna: Life-threatening procedures in the backyard!

The world of beauty is booming: more and more people are striving for a flawless appearance and are often not afraid to undertake risky procedures. Current reports show dramatic consequences. Doctors are sounding the alarm: The number of risky “cosmetic surgeries” in backyard practices is increasing rapidly. An estimated 100,000 treatments are carried out in Austria every year. The appeal of using cheaper offers from home and abroad is increasingly leading to tragic incidents, as demonstrated by the case of a 28-year-old Viennese woman who died after an operation by an “Instagram beautician” because she did not receive treatment in several Viennese hospitals crown reported.

The numerous reports of serious complications are particularly alarming. A 58-year-old woman who had confided in a Georgian “doctor” in Vienna suffered life-threatening injuries and required an emergency operation. The doctor, who was not licensed to work in Austria, is now in prison. In another shocking case, that of a nurse, the olfactory organ was virtually completely destroyed by a botched nose job. These incidents are particularly frequent in the east of the country, where the investigation into an insolvent “beauty clinic” has been going on for over a year and a half courier reported.

The price of beauty

The flamboyant fashion designer Harald Glööckler is another example of how far people are willing to go to change their bodies. Not only has he carried out numerous procedures over the last few decades, including breast operations and eyelid lifts, but he has also invested around 600,000 euros in his beauty treatments. This transformation began for him as a reaction to his mother's aging process. Glööckler explained that he would have liked to have an operation when he was six years old and that he now feels comfortable with his procedures: “I do it for myself,” he said in an interview. Despite the risks and the immense financial costs, his goal remains to counteract the aging process and maintain a perfect appearance.

However, the pursuit of beauty also has its downsides. Many women who are unaware of the risks or rely on unprofessional providers experience terrible disappointments and even life-threatening injuries. The industry is under scrutiny and education about safe treatments is becoming urgent to prevent future tragedies.
