Lower Austria's health system: planned primary care units in sight!
St. Pölten, Österreich - The further development of the primary care units (PVE) in Lower Austria was announced today, on December 5, 2024, by State Councilor Christoph Luisser in St. Pölten. At a press conference, Luisser, together with representatives of the Medical Association and the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK), announced that at least one PVE should be set up in every district capital of Lower Austria by the end of 2028. These facilities are crucial to relieve the existing health care and ensure that the population is supervised across the board, as Luisser emphasized. Four out of 21 planned PVes are already in operation in Amstetten, Melk, St. Pölten and Wiener Neustadt, while two others are being built in Mistelbach and Tulln.
New approach for health care
Robert Leitner, chairman of the ÖGK state office committee, described the PVEs as key projects for health care in Lower Austria. At the moment, twelve of such units are active, with the children's supply center in St. Pölten and the cross -border supply center Enns. Norbert Fidler from the ÖGK emphasized the advantages of the extended opening times and the interdisciplinary cooperation between doctors and other health professions. Max Wudy, Curium chairman of the resident doctors, emphasized that the PVEs represent a low -threshold access to the health system, which also reflects the increasing trend towards working together among doctors.
