Flu wave threatens schools: Where are the doctors in Upper Austria?

In Upper Austria, the health facilities fight against an alarming wave of flu cases, while numerous medical practices remain vacant. According to current reports, almost 90,000 people are already on sick leave due to flu -like infections before the schools start again after the holidays. This has led to an emergency in the region, since so far 39 cash register positions in general medicine and eleven specialist positions remain unclear, as the Medical Association emphasizes. Peter Niedermoser, the President of the Medical Association for Upper Austria, emphasizes that the high number of illnesses are already felt and urgently demands an improvement in the framework conditions for young doctors. Due to the insufficient incentives, many young doctors would be deterred from cash contracts, although thanks to the University of Linz there are enough offspring, such as

decline in health care

The need for a clear reform in health care is undeniable. Niedermoser calls for an immediate expansion in the resident area and notes that despite sufficient financial resources - for example the 300 million euros lost due to the cash merger - too little is made to improve the situation in Upper Austria. The doctors complain that the administration must use their time on bureaucracy and not for patient treatment, which further tightens the situation.

In another area of health promotion, 62 schools in Upper Austria were recently awarded for their outstanding health initiatives. The Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK) , the state of Upper Austria and the educational directorate honored schools for their committed measures to improve health in everyday school life. Albert Maringer, the chairman of the ÖGK state office, cheered on the high participation and the positive effect of these projects, which include moving lessons and nutritional workshops. The educational directorate also emphasizes the importance of these health -promoting measures in order to enable our children from an early age to a healthy life.
