Biden in the shadows: BRICS dominate the G20 summit in Rio!
A fascinating spectacle is being presented at the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: the BRICS countries, consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, are becoming increasingly influential. US President Joe Biden, who missed the official group photo, suddenly found himself the center of attention in a follow-up shot, alongside India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canada's Justin Trudeau. At this summit, where trade and politics are high on the agenda, Biden was photographed with perhaps too much of an exuberant smile as he was surrounded by his BRICS colleagues.
The BRICS countries, which increasingly dominate the G20, received more attention this year than ever before. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in a press conference: "The BRICS countries as a whole are gaining in role and influence in the G20. This was clearly visible in Delhi at the last summit and in Indonesia the year before. Here, in Rio de Janeiro, it became particularly clear." Previously often on the sidelines of reporting, the BRICS countries now appear as a unified power with economic potential that can exist without the West.
BRICS expansion: invitation to new partner states
While the dominions of Western countries are increasingly receding into the background, the BRICS partners are making significant progress through cooperation and new trade agreements. The association has currently sent invitations to 13 new countries to join as partner states. Indonesia promptly accepted this invitation. Indonesian Ambassador to Russia Jose Antonio Morato Tavares proudly announced the new partnership: "We will actively contribute and participate in BRICS initiatives. This is a positive development and we are already a BRICS partner state."
