In 100 days, on January 28, 2026, the Winter Olympics will begin in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. Organizers are under immense time pressure to complete the new ice hockey arena in southeast Milan by February. Andrea Varnier, CEO of the organizing committee, is optimistic and assures that the arena will be ready on time as there is no alternative. A test competition in the new arena is already planned for the beginning of January.
The ice hockey arena will have 14,000 seats and will host the ice hockey finals. After the Olympic Games, the arena will be converted into a multifunctional event venue. The head of the organization, Giovanni Malago, emphasized that the remaining 100 days are needed in full to complete all the necessary preparations.
Ticket sales and medal ambitions
800,000 tickets for the Olympic Games have already been sold, indicating high interest among spectators. Italy has set itself the goal of winning at least 18 medals - one more than at the previous Games in Beijing 2022. Around 2,900 athletes from all over the world are expected in three regions, Lombardy, Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige.
In addition to the Olympic Games, the Paralympic Winter Games will also take place in Milan Cortina. These are scheduled for the period from March 6th to 15th, 2026. Tickets for the Paralympics are already on sale and a dedicated ticket purchasing app will be available in December 2025. Final seating for the Paralympic Games will be made available by the end of December 2025, ensuring visitors are well prepared to enjoy the Games.
