Karaoke and chaos: When fathers fight for daycare places!

In Rodenbach, the audience experienced a brilliant premiere of the play “Playground Deer” in the Tivoli under the sparkling moonlight. Gitta (Nina Gerber), a homeless woman, finds herself at the playground when she suddenly spots Paul (Christian Kerkhoff), who is worried about his missing son Finn. Luckily, Gitta clarifies things straight away: Finn has already been picked up by grandma. This misunderstanding causes amusement and makes Paul initially reluctant to go home to his wife Jule, which initially causes the comic complications. Various fathers, including the overwhelmed Bernd (Klaus Heindl) and the sleep-deprived Florian (Thomas Helm), arrive to leave everyday life with their children behind them - an encounter that quickly escalates into a competition for a daycare place, as Gitta emphasizes: "It's best to do so at the moment of fertilization!" GNZ reported.

Music and ironic conflicts

The chaotic parents' evenings are humorously accompanied by musical interludes. With a karaoke machine in hand, Paul and the other fathers bring the questions of parenthood to the stage, where they ironically resolve the conflicts with songs like “Breathless” and “I want to break free.” Nina Gerber in particular is convincing not only as Gitta, but also in other female roles and makes the audience laugh. Comic highlights ensure warm applause and an unforgettable Cinderella reading performance increases the entertainment value of the evening. This entertaining production can be seen at the Tivoli until February 2nd.

A completely different show can be found in the literary world with the play “Jittas Atonement” by Siegfried Trebitsch, which was subjected to a dramatic transformation by George Bernard Shaw. The play is originally about the woman Jitta, who has to apologize for an affair with her husband's best friend. Shaw's changes transform the drama into a tragic-comic performance that brings new twists and character developments, which can also be seen as an exciting reflection on human relationships, as in Wikipedia is displayed. Shaw illuminates the complex emotions of those involved and brings out not only humor but also profound insights into the human psyche.
