Test of strength at the Rally Sweden: Evans ahead of Katsuta in a battle of nerves!
At this year's Rally Sweden, Hyundai driver Adrien Fourmaux is causing a stir - not because of his driving skills, but because of an unfortunate verbal slip-up. After a failed stage, the Frenchman was fined 10,000 euros for using inappropriate language and was also given a suspended sentence of a further 20,000 euros motorsport-total.com reported. Fourmaux, who expressed his frustration with the situation with the words "We fucked up yesterday" in the rally's final special stage, Umea 2, now faces strict FIA rules banning such expressions in public.
Nevertheless, the rally remains exciting. The leadership changed several times during the first long day of the event. After a total of eight special stages, Toyota's Elfyn Evans has a razor-thin lead of 0.6 seconds over his teammate Takamoto Katsuta. In the reporting by Motorsport.com highlights that conditions vary in the afternoon and grip on the track is difficult to assess. Before the crucial afternoon, however, Evans had maintained his lead through strategic tire changes and fast driving.
Changing tours and thrilling duels
During the exciting day, the drivers often had to adapt their strategies. Evans and Fourmaux both lost time due to delayed braking in the fifth stage, giving Katsuta the opportunity to take the lead. But the competition remained stubborn: In the seventh special stage, the Hyundai drivers Ott Tänak and Thierry Neuville also returned with three attacks. After an adventurous day, Evans ultimately had the upper hand and faced the challenges of the next day, while former world champion Kalle Rovanperä's gap grew to 25.5 seconds, adding to the drama.
