Weimar tests traffic lights to prevent accidents: is the turning point coming on the road?

In Weimar, a new traffic light system will be tested at the Carl-August-Allee intersection next year. This intersection with Ossietzky Street has proven to be particularly prone to accidents in recent years. According to the road traffic authority, there were 15 registered accidents this year, twice as many as in previous years. Cyclists are particularly affected, as they are often involved in accidents due to failure to give way. Despite measures already taken, such as reducing the speed to 30 km/h and additional warning signs, accidents have not been significantly reduced MDR reported.

Accident statistics in Germany

But it's not just Weimar that is characterized by dangerous streets. A current analysis by the insurance company Allianz Direct shows that the most dangerous street in Germany is not in the capital, but in Hamburg: Kieler Straße records an average of 53 accidents per year. In places two to ten, however, there are five main streets in Berlin, such as Berlin courier reported. Frankfurter Allee leads the ranking with 49 accidents, including eight serious ones. This clearly shows that many Berlin streets are perceived as dangerous, especially by cyclists. Karl-Marx-Allee is also in eighth place in the accident statistics with 35 registered accidents.
