Palmeiras reach Club World Cup quarter-finals with late goal!

Palmeiras São Paulo have qualified as the first quarter-finalists for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. The Brazilian team beat Botafogo Rio de Janeiro 1-0 in the round of 16, with the decisive goal coming in stoppage time. In an exciting game, Palmeiras dominated the first half and had several chances, but initially failed to score.

The first good opportunity came in stoppage time in the first half when a shot from Rios narrowly missed the goal. After the break, Palmeiras remained the dominant team. Estevao threatened in the 47th minute, but Botafogo's keeper John was able to save his shot. Estevao scored a goal in the 50th minute that was disallowed due to an offside position.

Exciting extra time and the decisive goal

Neither team managed a goal in regular time, which is why the game went into overtime. In the 100th minute, Paulinho, who came on as a substitute in the 64th minute and has been playing for Palmeiras since January 2023, gave his team a 1-0 lead. Botafogo became more offensive after going behind and played in the majority, as Palmeiras defender Gustavo Gomez received a red card in the 116th minute, but did not score a goal of their own.

The match ended with a 1-0 win for Palmeiras. The next opponent for the team will be determined this evening at 10 p.m. in the duel between Benfica Lisbon and Chelsea FC. Palmeiras will face the challenge in the next game with confidence after proving that they are strong even in tight situations.

A look at the 2025 Club World Cup

Botafogo had triumphed in the Copa Libertadores 2024 last season and was therefore a serious opponent for Palmeiras. The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final will take place on July 13, 2025 at 9:00 p.m. at MetLife Stadium in New York. The finalists are currently unknown. The tournament will be broadcast via DAZN.
