Messi plans possible suspension in freezing Kansas – excitement at Inter Miami!

Inter Miami is facing a potential scandal as superstar Lionel Messi is apparently considering not playing in their upcoming Champions Cup game against Sporting Kansas City. According to reports from journalist Franco Panizo, Messi, football's record champion, fears that the announced freezing temperatures of up to -15 degrees Celsius (5 degrees Fahrenheit) are too extreme for him. The perceived temperature could even drop to -24 degrees Celsius (−12 degrees Fahrenheit), which has led Messi to take steps to avoid the game, such as Laola1 reported.

Messi's aversion to cold weather has been known since his former strike partner Luis Suárez stated some time ago that Messi suffers when he has to play in cold and snow. It would be particularly dramatic if the game still took place, as it would then break the record for the coldest official senior football game in the USA. The current record comes from an MLS game between Colorado Rapids and Portland Timbers that took place in 2019 at -7 degrees Celsius (18 degrees Fahrenheit). Given these predictions, Inter Miami is already considering postponing the game or moving it to a warmer location, like Sportskeeda reported.

The game will take place on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at Children’s Mercy Park Stadium. Regardless of these challenges, Inter Miami is looking forward to the upcoming MLS game against New York City on February 22, 2025. Messi has proven to be a key player since moving to MLS in the summer of 2023 and has already enjoyed numerous successes, including winning the Leagues Cup in his debut season. However, given the extreme weather conditions, it remains to be seen whether he will play against Kansas City.
