Mass panic at New Delhi train station: At least 18 dead in horror accident!

In New Delhi on Saturday evening there was a tragic mass panic at the main train station in which at least 18 people lost their lives. The destination of the numerous pilgrims, including many women and children, was the largest religious festival in the world, the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. The arrival of a special train that was used to accommodate the enormous number of travelers caused a panicked flight. Many waited at another platform and hastily tried to catch the new train, trampling over other travelers sitting on the overpass, reports said Kathpress.

Panic among pilgrims

The deadly situation arose when large crowds at the train station lost their nerve. Further information showed that 15 other people were injured. India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on Platform X and described the events as disturbing. Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that an investigation had been launched into the incident. A total of 400 million pilgrims are expected to attend the Kumbh Mela, which runs from January 13 to February 26, requiring huge efforts from security forces, such as n-tv reported.

This tragic stampede is not the first incident at the Kumbh Mela, which takes place every twelve years. A similar situation occurred in Prayagraj at the end of January, in which more than 40 people died and numerous injuries were reported. To ensure the safety of pilgrims this year, the authorities have installed hundreds of cameras on the festival grounds, but the danger remains given the huge crowds.
