Trump: Ukraine could one day become Russian before Vance-Zelensky meeting
The former US President Donald Trump has claimed that Ukraine may “eventually” fall under Russian control. He demanded that the war-torn country share its natural resources with the United States for aid.
Economic resources of Ukraine
Trump, whose return to power casts doubt on billions of dollars in future U.S. aid to Ukraine, said in an interview with Fox News on Monday that he had made an offer of "$500 billion for rare earths" to the Ukrainian government. Trump said Ukrainian officials “essentially agreed” to the proposal.
The value of Ukrainian mineral resources
“Ukraine has extremely valuable land in rare earths, oil, gas and other resources,” Trump said. “I want to protect our money because we are spending hundreds of billions of dollars.” He added: "They could make a deal, they could make no deal. Maybe they'll be Russian at some point, maybe they won't. But we'll have all this money there, and I say I want it back."
Search for peace in Ukraine
Trump, who has clearly spoken out in favor of a quick end to the conflict but has so far presented few public solutions, had previously floated the idea of meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky this week.
Planned conversations and visits
His special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, former General Keith Kellogg, announced that he would discuss the vision for peace in Ukraine with the allies at the Munich Security Conference, which takes place February 14-16. Kellogg is expected to travel to the Ukrainian capital Kiev four days later, in what will be his first, long-awaited visit there, according to Ukrainian state media.
